A Funding Update — Gratitude, Progress, and Reality

We wanted to share a quick update on where we are in our funding journey, and first and foremost, say thank you.

The generosity we’ve already received from friends and family has genuinely meant more to us than we can put into words. Every donation, message, and check-in reminds us that we’re not doing this alone—and that matters more than anything.

An Update on Men Having Babies & GPAP

As part of our planning, we applied to the Gay Parenting Assistance Program (GPAP) through Men Having Babies, which offers support to gay men building families through surrogacy.

We were approved for Stage 1 benefits, which include access to vetted clinics, agencies, and meaningful discounts with partners they work with. That alone is a big win and something we’re incredibly grateful for—it helps us make smarter, safer decisions and stretch every dollar further.

We were, however, declined for Stage 2 benefits, which include direct financial assistance. When we followed up to better understand the decision, we were told it was due to our household income being above the program’s threshold.

We understand the reasoning. Truly. These funds are limited, and they need to go to families with the greatest financial need.

Still—if we’re being honest—it was a tough pill to swallow.

Living in the In-Between

We’ve found ourselves in a strange middle space:
Our income is considered too high to qualify for additional funding, but it’s also not high enough for this journey to feel easy or fully self-funded.

Surrogacy isn’t something you casually budget for. Even with careful planning, discounts, and savings, it still feels daunting at times. There’s no endless pool of money behind us, which means every decision carries weight. Every dollar matters.

That reality doesn’t discourage us—but it does make us incredibly intentional.

Where We’re Headed

Despite the challenges, we’re off to a strong start. The support we’ve received so far has helped us build real momentum, and the Stage 1 benefits give us tools and guidance we wouldn’t otherwise have access to.

We’re moving forward thoughtfully, cautiously, and with a deep appreciation for everyone who’s helped us get here already.

Thank you for being part of this chapter with us—whether that’s through a donation, a message, or simply cheering us on from the sidelines. We feel it, and we carry it with us as we keep going.

More soon 🤍
